The Plan

“Our program has assembled an outstanding group of scientists and physician-scientists with the goal of revealing new ways of thinking about cancer. Our approach will be to combine basic research in epigenetic mechanisms and progenitor cell biology with an emphasis on uncovering fundamental mechanisms of cell biology to develop innovative cancer diagnostics and therapies.” – Fabrice Roegiers, Ph.D.

This Keystone Program is composed of internationally recognized leaders in epigenetic gene regulation, progenitor cell biology, and experimental models for cancer. Together, the group investigates the basic principles of epigenetic regulation in normal and cancer cells, with a focus on the most common cancers, including breast, colon, endometrial, thyroid, pancreatic, and kidney cancer. The research team will also study the behavior of progenitor and stem cells in both humans and other organisms. Fundamental discoveries in these areas could have a substantial impact on diverse medical conditions, such as organ failure and diabetes, in addition to relieving the burden of human cancers.

Through this Keystone Program, clinicians and scientists work hand-in-hand at the interface of normal tissue development studies and oncology. Indeed, the program includes a physician-training component that will provide intensive laboratory experience to medical, surgical and radiation oncology fellows.
