The Keystone Program in Personalized Kidney Cancer Therapy

Gary R. Hudes, M.D.
Co-Leader, Keystone Program in Personalized Kidney Cancer Therapy

Gary Hudes

Dr. Gary R. Hudes is director of genitourinary malignancies in Fox Chase Cancer Center’s department of medical oncology. A tenured member of the staff, he has extensive experience in Phase I and early Phase II clinical trials and is a nationally recognized expert on the chemotherapy of prostate cancer. A board-certified medical oncologist, Hudes has pioneered several novel combinations of antimicrotubule agents in prostate cancer—work that has been translated from laboratory to Phase I, II and III clinical trials. His laboratory has focused on how cancer cells develop resistance to drugs that attack important structural proteins called MAPs (microtubule-associated proteins) and the regulation of the genes involved. Hudes serves on the Genitourinary Core Committee of the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group and is a member of the Clinical Trials Steering Committee of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network. He is also member of the American Association for Cancer Research, American Society for Clinical Oncology, American College of Physicians, American Association for the Advancement of Science, Pennsylvania Society of Oncology and Hematology and the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group. Hudes received his B.S. in electrical engineering from Rutgers College and earned his M.D. at State University of New York-Brooklyn. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Graduate Hospital in Philadelphia and a fellowship in hematology-oncology at Presbyterian-University of Pennsylvania Medical Center in Philadelphia before joining the Fox Chase staff in 1985.
